The basement slab has been poured. The concrete was poured in two parts; the interior shear wall footing that runs parallel to the retaining wall, and the slab. Pouring separately allowed for a thermal break in between the footing and the slab, and avoided the need for insulation with compressive strength under the footing itself. This interior shear wall is critical to this design, holding up the deck and the living and dining room volumes above. The slab sits 2" below the exterior footing walls, and primary floor finish will be a floating installation of engineered wood planks.
